A valve guide is a cylindrical insert in the cylinder head that guides the valve stem during its movement. It ensures precise alignment and minimizes lateral motion to maintain compression and valve sealing.

When should it be replaced?

Replace if there is excessive play, oval wear, blue exhaust smoke, or during a head rebuild.
