Suzuki trim sensor

Suzuki trim sensors: all our genuine and compatible references

Essential for adjusting your boat's running attitude and optimising navigation performance, the trim sensor is a key part of your Suzuki outboard engine. Whether you own a DF series 4-stroke model or a DT series 2-stroke model, discover our wide range of genuine and replacement senders and gauges. DAM Marine, your marine parts specialist for 50 years, helps you identify the right reference, test your equipment and find all associated parts for a reliable hydraulic tilt system.

The trim sensor plays a fundamental role in controlling your boat. It accurately indicates the angle of your Suzuki outboard directly on the dashboard. This real-time information allows the pilot to make precise adjustments to the boat's attitude by acting on the outdrive trim.

Correctly adjusting the tilt of your boat engine with a perfectly working sensor offers several advantages. It actively helps optimise fuel consumption during sea trips while significantly improving control and overall navigation efficiency. A good Suzuki trim setting optimises propeller performance, reduces consumption and limits stress on the transom by avoiding pounding.

In our catalogue dedicated to boating, we make it a priority to offer a wide choice of equipment and spare parts at the best price. Our strategic references have been carefully selected for their reliability. You will find models such as 34801-93J04, 34840-98J11 and 34801-94720, which meet demanding standards. Our stock also includes essential senders such as 34801-99E05, 34840-87L01 and 34840-98J03. Each Suzuki part or replacement model offered by DAM Marine provides excellent durability in marine environments. Navigating with a faulty system can compromise safety and performance, which is why we make sure to supply robust components.

Compatibility table: find the sensor for your engine, DF and DT series

Identifying the right part for your engine is a crucial step before any purchase. The Suzuki catalogue is mainly divided into two large families: 4-stroke engines, DF series, and 2-stroke engines, DT series.

For the efficient 4-stroke range, selecting the right Suzuki sensor depends on the year of production and horsepower. Reference 34801-99E05 is notably compatible with Suzuki DF200 engines. Still within the DF series, excellent replacement alternatives are available. For example, some Recmar models cover a wide power range, including the well-known DF200, DF225 and DF250 produced from 2004 onwards.

For the historic 2-stroke range, DT series, the technical specifications are different. Robust models such as the DT115 and DT140 generally require specific senders with particular wiring. This is often a 4-wire trim transmitter, with 34801-94720 as the key reference.

Before confirming your order, it is always strongly recommended to confirm trim indicator compatibility by checking the serial number on your outboard engine identification plate. This serial number is your guarantee against ordering the wrong component. An unsuitable item could distort the data sent to the gauge and compromise the tilt system.

Here is our summary table to make your search easier:

Engine seriesModelSensor reference
DF 4-stroke DF200 34801-99E05
DF 4-stroke DF200, DF225, DF250 from 2004 34801-93J04 / 34801-93J03 Recmar
DT 2-stroke DT115, DT140 34801-94720, 4-wire

Diagnosis: how to test your trim sensor

What exactly is the sensor's role in the circuit?

The gauge component is an electromechanical device that sends continuous electrical information to the dashboard. It therefore visually displays the exact tilt position of the engine during your boating manoeuvres.

What are the symptoms of a common fault?

A failure of this component shows through several distinct signs. Here are the most frequent issues you may encounter:

  • a frozen or completely incorrect angle indication on the control gauge;
  • an internal return spring blocked by salt, scale or marine corrosion;
  • wear on the internal resistive track of the potentiometer, causing display jumps or an infinite value, open circuit, on the multimeter.

Before replacing the sender, check the condition of the trim cam, the thrust ring attached to the pivot shaft. On Suzuki engines, this nylon or composite part can crack or rotate on its shaft, completely distorting the signal sent to the gauge even if the sensor itself still works.

How should the part be tested?

During diagnostic testing, first identify your equipment wiring. This step is essential because connectors vary depending on engine generation. The wiring can include 4 wires on certain specific DT range models. Use a multimeter to check electrical continuity and component resistance while manually operating the lever. Also make sure the connectors are not oxidised. A simple contact clean with a specific spray can sometimes solve display problems.

Associated parts: trim motors, cylinder heads and seal kits

When hydraulic work is required, it is often wise to inspect the entire mechanism. In addition to simply replacing the transmitter, DAM Marine offers global solutions, including complete assemblies for the outboard tilt system.

The lift system, exposed to high pressure and an aggressive environment, may require replacement of other wear components. For a durable repair, the following peripheral parts are often associated:

  • guide plugs and cylinder wiper seals to prevent seawater from entering the hydraulic circuit;
  • lift cylinder rods, which form the heart of the mechanical thrust;
  • electric tilt motors that pressurise the fluid;
  • specific O-ring seal kits to prevent oil leaks or pressure loss.

Adding a conversion kit or preventively replacing wear parts ensures the long service life of your onboard installation.
